Privacy Policy
Last updated: September 2026
This policy explains what data SportPair collects, why it is collected, and what you can do about it. SportPair is operated by an individual developer based in Cambridge, United Kingdom.
1. What we collect
Information you give us
- Account details. Your name and email address, provided when you register. Your password is stored only as a hash and is never readable by anyone, including us.
- Profile details. The sports you play, your level for each, when you are free to play, and a profile photo if you choose to add one.
- Messages and photos. The messages and photos you send in one-to-one chats and match group chats.
- Match details. The matches and sessions you create or join, including the title, place, date and cost you enter.
- Reports. If you report a user or a message, we keep a record of the report so it can be reviewed.
Information collected automatically
- Approximate location. With your permission, so we can show matches, players and venues near you and name your city. Location is used while you are using the app and is not tracked in the background.
- Push notification token. An identifier for your device, so we can send you notifications about messages, invitations and matches.
- Diagnostic data. When the app or the server runs into an error, technical details about that error are recorded so the problem can be fixed.
2. How we use it
We use your data to run SportPair: to sign you in, to show you players, matches and venues, to let you chat and arrange games, to send you notifications about things that involve you, and to keep the service safe.
Offensive language is checked automatically when you send a message or create a match. Where content is blocked, a record of the attempt is kept so that repeated abuse can be acted on.
We do not sell your personal data, and we do not use it for advertising. SportPair contains no adverts.
3. What other people can see
Other users of SportPair can see your name, initials, profile photo, the sports and levels on your profile, and when you say you are free to play. People in a match with you can see your messages in that match's group chat. People you message directly can see those messages.
Your email address is never shown to other users.
4. Who else processes your data
SportPair uses a small number of service providers to operate. Each processes data only to provide its part of the service.
| Provider | What it handles |
|---|---|
| Supabase | Database and storage for profile and chat photos |
| Render | Hosting for the SportPair server |
| Expo and Google Firebase | Delivery of push notifications |
| Resend | Sending emails, such as confirmation and password reset codes |
| Sentry | Recording technical errors so they can be fixed |
| Google Maps and OpenStreetMap | Maps and sports venue locations |
Some of these providers operate outside the United Kingdom. Where data leaves the UK, it is transferred under the safeguards those providers have in place.
5. How long we keep it
Your account data is kept while your account exists. When you delete your account, your profile, matches you organised, messages, ratings, invitations and blocks are deleted.
Records of reports and of blocked content may be kept for longer, so that repeated abuse can be identified. Diagnostic error data is kept for a limited period by the provider that records it.
6. Storage and security
Your data is stored on servers operated by the providers listed above. Passwords are hashed and never stored in readable form. Connections between the app and the server use HTTPS.
7. Your rights
Under UK data protection law you have the right to:
- ask what personal data we hold about you
- ask us to correct data that is wrong
- ask us to delete your data
- object to how we use your data, or ask us to restrict it
- complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk
You can delete your account and your data at any time from Settings in the app. You can also turn off location and notification permissions from your device settings at any time; parts of the app will work with less detail if you do.
8. Age requirement
SportPair is for people aged 18 and over. The app arranges meetings between people who may not know each other, and it is not designed or intended for anyone under 18.
If you believe someone under 18 has created an account, please email sportpair@gmail.com so it can be removed.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the app changes. The date at the top shows when it was last updated.
